ACTLAA have updated the  D Level Officials Guide.  We urge all parents to familiarise themselves with this guide as it contains basic rules and  tips on measuring, timing and conducting events. The more knowledge  our volunteer officials(parents) have, the fairer it is for all our athletes.

Coaching

The Club has several qualified coaches, accredited by the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association (ATFCA), available to assist children in the finer points of athletics.  The sessions are free but note that the coaches are all unpaid volunteers.

The BWLAC qualified coaches are:

Neil Croker
ATFCA Level 2 (General principles)

Tracey Gould:
ATFCA Level 2 (Sprints, jumps, & general principles)

Tony Walters:
ATFCA Level 1 (General principles)

Peter Caley:
ATFCA Level 1 (General principles)

Lee Bobbin:
ATFCA Level 1 (General principles)
Joseph Flor:

ATFCA Level 2 ( Throws )

Coaching sessions will be conducted at Cook Oval on Wednesday afternoons starting on 15 October 2008, however these are not compulsory. We offer coaching for U7’s up and younger siblings can participate provided a parent assists with the session. Coaching runs from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm and each session covers two different disciplines. Parent assistance in supervising children undertaking drills set by the coaches is needed at most sessions.

We would love to have more coaches in the club and if you want more information, please speak to the head coach, Neil Croker or any committee member. For those parents who wish to further their coaching skills, the ATFCA conduct coaching accreditation courses. The cost of attending the course will be reimbursed to those parents giving an undertaking to assist with coaching at the club.

The philosophy of LAs is for kids to develop their skills across all the athletics events. However, some older children (>12) may want to start specializing. There are a number of coaches in the ACT that cater for these needs although finding them is not always easy.  Some details can be found on the Australian Track & Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) website (www.atfca.com.au), but it is probably a good idea to first talk to Neil Croker or any other committee member.
