ACTLAA have updated the D Level Officials Guide.
We urge all parents to familiarise themselves with this guide as
it contains basic rules and tips on measuring, timing and
conducting events. The more knowledge our volunteer officials(parents) have, the fairer it is for all our athletes.
Coaching
The Club has several qualified
coaches, accredited by the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association
(ATFCA) and members of Athletics Australia, available to assist children in the finer points of athletics. The sessions are free but note that the
coaches are all unpaid volunteers.
Jennifer Bryant Russel Philby Neil Croker Peter Caley Joseph Flor Coaching sessions will be conducted at Cook Oval on
Wednesday afternoons starting on 26 October 2011, however these are not
compulsory. Coaching runs from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Parents must
pick up or organise for their child to be picked up from the oval at
6:30pm, as there is no supervision available after this time.
We offer coaching for U7’s up, younger athletics will be participating in the “Ontrack” program on a Saturday morning (see details of the Ontrack program). Parent Participation - parent assistance in supervising children undertaking drills set by the coaches is needed at most sessions. Most of the coaches are happy to have parents actively participating in the sessions, especially running around the track with the children, however parents must be aware that this is at their own risk. We would love to have more coaches in the club and if you want more information, please speak to the head coach, Jennifer Bryant or any committee member. For those parents who wish to further their coaching skills, the ATFCA conduct coaching accreditation courses. The cost of attending the course will be reimbursed to those parents giving an undertaking to assist with coaching at the club. The philosophy of LAs is for kids
to develop their skills across all the athletics events. However, some older
children (>12) may want to start specializing. There are a number of coaches
in the ACT that cater for these needs although finding them is not always easy.
Some details can be found on the Australian
Track & Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) website (www.atfca.com.au), but it is probably a
good idea to first talk to
